Mark your calendars for May 3 and Oct. 11 as we prepare for two networking and “fund”raising events to support the study of agriculture in higher education.

PREPARATIONS are under way for two big Florida Fertilizer & Agrichemical Association events— the FFAA Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament in May and the association’s Clay Shoot in October.

Next week is the 2018 FFAA Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament (register and/or sponsor here at https://tmp.wufoo.com/forms/registersponsor-the-2018-ffaa-scholarship-golf/), on Thursday, May 3, starting at 8 a.m., at The Country Club of Winter Haven.

The golf tournament is one of two big— and fun— fundraisers the FFAA holds for the Scholarship Fund each year. The other is the annual FFAA Scholarship Fund Clay Shoot, which this year will be held Oct. 11 at Quail Creek in Okeechobee. Check back in September at www.ffaa.org for Clay Shoot registration information.

The FFAA Scholarship Fund was established to offer scholarships to qualified agriculture students at the University of Florida, Florida A&M University, and Florida Southern College. These scholarships are designed to promote the study of agriculture in higher education and to encourage academic excellence among students who pursue agriculture studies. In turn, the hope of the FFAA leadership is that some of these students will use their talents to improve Florida agriculture through research or employment in the agribusiness industry.

To learn more about the FFAA Scholarship Fund— which would include finding about all the good folks who serve on the fund board of directors— or for students who wish to apply for a scholarship, visit https://ffaa.org/scholarship/. Scholarship applications are accepted from Aug. 15 to Oct. 15 each year.

For members of the FFAA Scholarship Fund board, the next meetings are scheduled for Aug. 14 and Dec. 11. Both meetings will be held at 9 a.m. at the FFAA office in Bartow.
